Chapter 1 & 2 Review

Prayer

O Lord, you have granted me the ability to be able to spread the Word throughout our world today. A chance to make a dent in my community. Lord let the Holy Spirit open my eyes so that I can see the problems, tell and teach me how I need to feel, how I should honor you. Help me serve you willingly, help me be what God has wanted me to be. Help me outlive my life Lord because only you can do that, help me change. I am your servant Lord, call me when you need me. Help me be compassionate a towards others, to give grace to those who need it to love the unloved. In your name, I pray, Amen.

Chapter 4 Review

Prayer

O Heavenly Father, I praise you for everything that you have done for me, for sending your Son to die on the cross for, a person who cannot remember at times why I am on this earth. Lord remind me, remind me of how I need to help, of my meaning in this life. Death has no match on your Jesus, no impact. Lead me and show me how to turn my fears into a block to launch myself from, into the world. Let me be a guide through this dark world today towards you, the light of the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Chapter 14 Review

Prayer

O Lord Almighty, you use everybody to do your work, no matter who they are. You do not look at the labels but instead, you look at the heart, my heart. Open my eyes, Lord, clean them so that I might see the world without labels. To you God no one is unclean or unfit. Lord let me be like Peter that I do run because of a wall that I built because of the world around me, let me break them down, Lord. Make me a vessel for your grace and your mercy. In your Holy and loving name, Amen.

Reflective Essay for

Outlive Your Life

Max Lucado puts the Bible and our world today together to help people see what Jesus and the Bible are trying to tell us. Max uses stories from his life and from research that he has done to put into context or help explain the Bible more specifically the book of Acts. He also explains the chapter of Acts or this story in the chapter to a certain theme, he narrows it down so we can digest what the text is telling us. In Acts 10 he talks uses the story of Peter going to a person who is a Gentile who he was taught to have nothing to do with and Max simply puts it that we are told and do the same thing in our generation, with alcoholics and people who have had divorces. There are times that the author also puts the Bible and Acts in a different light sometimes helping the reader understand even more. Overall my the author putting the book of Acts into a current time says that the Bible can be used for the problems that we have now if we just change some of the words.

Prior to reading the book Outlive Your Life and starting this Unit, I did not outlive my life, I say opportunities to do things in my church and out in my community that I did not do. Times that I could have helped someone who probably did not know God because I didn’t have the courage or strength to do it. During this Unit I believe that I have outlived my life, I have helped people around my church and around my community, just the other day after our game against Wahoo we had defeated them and one of the girls was crying because they had lost. I went up to her and I told her that she had done an amazing job and it was the truth, she had gotten some amazing kills.

There are times that I helped people and asked them about God, during Dare 2 Share but one of the most exciting things that had happened to me as the Holy Spirit worked through me would be when I became friends with a girl that is now really close to me. We didn’t know each other at all and one day she came over to talk to one of my other friends and I decided to introduce myself. I felt something push me to get to know her and later I found out that she had been going through a tough time and when she had met me it was like a light in the darkness. In my future, I want to help more people out whether it’s when they’re in a troubling time or if it’s just because they need help. I want to the Holy Spirit to use and guide me to who and what I need to do.

Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This is one of the first verses that the author using in the book and I’ve come across in other places and it has always stuck with me. I chose this one as one of my two because it is reminding us that we are God’s no matter what we do and he has planned out our future for us, he will use us for his purpose as long as we let him. Applying this verse to our Unit is easy, to me I believe that it fights right into the recurring theme, to let God and the Holy Spirit guide us and show us where we need to go and what we need to do we are made to do his works.

1 Corinthians 12:18, “But in fact, God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” I love metaphors and so I love this verse, it is Paul describing to the people of Corinth that everybody has a meaning to the church we are not all the same, we were not created that way. Max brings up a lot of verses and stories of all of the people of the church, us and how we are different and that that is a good thing. Again the way you can connect this verse to the rest of the Unit I believe is another main point, theme, that we are all different and that is a good thing, no one is made alike.

One of the things that became sort of more clear was that maybe things might have been happening within the church as Peter and the rest of the disciples proclaimed Christ. The way that they depicted Paul and his hate for Peter helped me understand that Paul might have been like that, he could have hated Peter so much that he could not accept that what he said was true. Also in the story of Saul they have the actors of the disciples be terrified of Saul if they hear his name they cowered in fear, they ran and they hide and it could have been like that.
